A Simple Dignified Funeral

Coronavirus (COVID19) – Funeral Guidance

Updated 1st April 2020

A UNIQUE FUNERAL for these uniquely challenging times from Joseph A. Hey & Son Ltd.

A Simple Dignified Funeral has been introduced by Joseph A. Hey & Son Ltd., to take into account the very specific needs of a bereaved family and combine it to work within the guidelines issued by the Government.

Unfortunately funerals carried out at this time will not be how a bereaved family, or the deceased would originally have wanted the funeral to be,however we will do everything we can to help during this difficult time.

A Simple Dignified Funeral for £1,462.00 includes;

  • All the administration, organisation, telephone calls and arrangements with all parties including the crematorium, Doctors and the Coroner. It is now not be possible to arrange for someone to lead a funeral service while the Pandemic is a threat.
  • To protect both the next of kin and our funeral directors, funeral arrangements will be made over the telephone or by email either during or out of normal working hours.
  • The removal of the deceased back to our dedicated purpose built private chapel during normal working hours. Additional charges will be incurred for an “out of hours” removal.
  • Conveyance of the deceased to a Bradford crematorium on a mutually convenient day and at an appropriate time. Other crematoriums will be considered upon request.
  • A solid wooden ash casket with engraved name plate for the cremated remains (ashes)

Funeral Director’s Charges                           £700.00

  • A cardboard coffin can be used without a coffin cover at a cost of:             £190.00
  • Or the use of our award winning Coffin Cover and a cardboard coffin is     £220.00
  • Traditional wooden coffins are also available at an additionalcost.

Necessary Disbursements – Fees paid to third parties

  • Doctors’ fee for cremation (one doctor only)                                              £82.00
  • Cremation at a Bradford Crematorium with no one attending                £490.00

There is no provision for a minister or celebrant to lead the service.

Total Funeral cost where there is no one is attending at the crematorium       £1,462.00

A “celebration of life” to follow;
Once the Coronavirus crisis is over and our lives return to something like ‘normal’, Joseph A. Hey & Son Ltd would like to offer the use of their private chapel for a ‘celebration of life’.

A ‘celebration of life’ would have the handmade ash casket containing the cremated remains of the deceased in the chapel to enable the bereaved family and friends to pay their respects.The service will give the close family and their friends, ‘private time’ and the opportunity to ‘say goodbye’,perhaps with a minister or celebrant, flowers, an order of service and music; the personal touches that mean so much to so many.

A future ‘celebration of life’ in our dedicated private chapel could be arranged,either during normal working hours, in the evening or at the weekend to provide flexibility and allow as many people as possible to attend.

The family at Joseph A Hey & Son Ltd are proud be the first funeral home in the UK to offer a ‘celebration of life’ service in their premises. If the current circumstances do not allow a bereaved family the opportunity to have a meaningful funeral at the time of death; a postponed ‘celebration of life’ service might just be the appropriate occasion to say ‘goodbye’.

We are anticipating a nominal charge for a ‘celebration of life’ service during normal working hours of approximately £250.00.

Funeral services would normally incur disbursement charges for additional items such as a Minister’s fee, flowers, order of service and perhaps a newspaper announcement.

A full written estimate will be provided.

We will provide specific guidance and a quotation for a burial. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.

Full payment is required prior to the funeral or proof of benefits must be disclosed in order to make a successful claim from the DWP using the SF200 claim form.
